DUMBGUARDSHIP

The traditional form of a Dumbguard

Time and again, it can be said that Dumbguardship would be the most challenging part of your stint here in the Officer Candidate School. For you would be subjected to the rigors and hardships you might have never imagined when you were still a happy go lucky civilian. Streneous physical exercises, and rigid military postures, endless compliances from your seniors, as well as coping up to the pressure of the academics (military subjects), non-academic activities and a life of absolute regimentation. This is also the time where the core principles and foundations of military organization would be introduced in such an enforcing manner so that it would be instilled deep in your heart and mind.During this stage of transition, there would come a point that you would doubt your character and opt to give up. This should not be so OC sspirants, for dumbguardship is meant to be hard and difficult, from there you will have the opportunity to develop and grow, stand on your own two feet and take all the challenges that comes your way with.. It also prepares you of becoming a Senior Officer Candidate, a task full of responsibility meant for those who have the courage and strength of character, and if you were able to overcome the life of being a dumbguard, all it takes is a little bit of foresight and confidence in yourself. Remember that everything has its purpose, and we hope that you would be able to understand it in your own time.

INCORPORATION

After the indoctrination process, you will be formally incorporated to the Officer Candidate Battalion (OCBn) were you will be directly supervise by your Senior Classmen in all the activities, acting as your mentor in your daily routines especially in gaining the proper attitude and obedience and also experiencing the pressure and learning the value and importance of responsibility and leadership. Concentrating and focusing on small things provides you the confidence in achieving every inch of all the pressure packed activities and these will further enhance your sense of discipline and commitment in the undertakings of a proud member of the OCBn .

RECOGNITION

This is the time every dumbguard looks forward to. It is the time when you would be crossing his bridge and be worthy to be called as a OC. From here you will now taste the sweet fruits of your sacrifices. Reaching recognition is a worthy achievement, for it represents that you have been molded into a responsible and competent individual, trained and accustomed to the standards of a proud OC. After recognition, you will then be tasked with the responsibility of supervising the Officer Candidate Battalion and ensure that its standards are enforced. You can also avail of privileges such as weekend leaves to be able to see your families and loved one. Always keep in mind that being recognized is not a privilege per se, it is just a manifestation that you are expected to act and behave in proper military manner and with dignity and restraint, and does not need to be under strict supervision. It is therefore your own task to apply what you have learned and ensure that it does not fall short of the institution’s standards

A CONTINUOUS LEARNING PROCESS

As an Officer Candidate, you must be able to learn all the military knowledge and skills of the school that will inculcate and indoctrinate upon you. It is essential that you're set it to apply, once you leave the portals of this institution and be leaders on your own right. You will be on your own, guided by the principles and values of the OCS, as an insitution of professional army officers. So while you are still on training, exert every effort to learn and develop such skills for it is the driving force towards the achievement of your goals and objectives.       The greatest gift that God has given to us is not the gift of sight, but the gift of vision. Sight is the function of the eyes, while vision is the function of the heart. It is a mental picture of your destiny. Each person has a vision that is designed to give meaning and purpose in life. It serves as his guiding star in continuing his quest for excellence. Destiny lies in the hands of the men and the fulfillment thereof is dependent on his actions. There must be a path to be followed in order to achieve these dreams. Strike hard and work harder! This is the way to start the fulfillment of your dreams.
On our continuous quest for the achievement of our vision in life, there lie many trials, hardships, and challenges to be hurdled. Even superheroes like Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Bernardo Carpio, Darna, and others are also experiencing sadness, depression, despair, discouragements, and joy just like us. Their stories can provide us the deeper appreciation of life. We can reveal the real purpose, meaning, priorities and other principles in our lives. This is very valuable for our personal growth and self-development. Let us be reminded that a life rooted in real and a balanced, significant and fulfilled life free from boredom, worries, and fears.
In this world there are vast numbers of people from all walks of life feel that they are bored, unhappy and totally dissatisfied in their lives. This feeling of boredom made them unproductive members of society. Boredom does not only create fatigue on our bodies but also for the people around us. Broken homes, crimes, divorce and other negative things resulted from being unsatisfied. In order to overcome this feeling of boredom you must discover the purpose and God-given direction of your life. Set realistic goals for your life and home. Family is a great deal compared to material things that we have. Being sensitive, enthusiastic, and giving time to will have a remarkable touch on your life.
Life is a contest of yourself and the society. Society produces the ills and evil acts available to mankind. These goblinic acts will test us if we are truly honorable persons or not. Being an honorable man lies on the totality of our personality. The wisdom that God has given us will be our tool for valuable judgment and disposition in life. Our honor is our life, take our honor and our life is done. Preserving honor is not just easy as ABCs. There must be a deep realization on how to live an honorable life. Every one of us must learn the thread of honor and commitment of being a Filipino and capture the lessons in life embedded in virtues for rebuilding our torn country.
Our achievements in life are the determinants whether we are contented in our life or not. Happiness in every person is very challenging and cannot be achieved easily. There are many things, situations, problems, and other things that continuously bother us. In order to have a happy life you must think of your purpose and feel satisfied. Be positive always in your outlook in life. Managed to smile and help others. Be flexible in confronting different situations everyday. Regard your work as a calling unto you. These thoughts will lead your path towards a happy life.
National identity marks as the inherent brand that our country has given unto us upon our birth. As the modern times go on, the status of our identity being Filipinos is depreciating. We are now branded as the home of domestic helpers. That is not a nice thing to hear and be branded by such idea. We are experiencing a great battle on how we can uplift our national identity. We must prove to the world that we are intelligent, skillful and talented people both here and abroad, truly a Global competitive Pinoy of the 21st century. The achievement of this realism lies on our own hands. We must contribute what we can do for the betterment of our Motherland. For this is the only land that God gave us. None anymore is intended to us on the other side of the world. Be proud to be a Filipino! Be proud to be a member of Brown Raise!
